KP Judicial Academy to have TV, radio channels
PESHAWAR: Television and radio channels will be set up at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy for people’s education on their legal rights, said Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Dost Mohammad on Friday.
“Efforts are afoot to establish radio and television channels in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy for raising public awareness about their legal rights and obligations,” he told a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council delegation during a meeting here.
According to a news release issued here, the chief justice told visitors that the academy’s scope would not be limited to judicial officers, lawyers, police investigators, adjudicators and civil servants related to dispensation of justice and enforcement of law but it would also be extended to people’s awareness and education, too, of their legal rights and obligations.
He said the judicial academy had been established in the province to build the capacity of all those related to dispensation of justice and rule of law, while work on the establishment of a law university in the province was also underway.
The chief justice said the draft Act of Law University was being prepared.
“Graduates of the proposed university should be able to join the profession of legal practices in specific fields like other professions. For this to happen, the law and procedures of the bar council need to be amended. Therefore, lawyers should come forward and put their suggestions forward before the enactment of the said laws,” he said.
The chief justice urged members and bodies of legal fraternity to adhere to their code of conduct, international negotiations and advice of seniors to avoid misunderstanding and maintain ethical standards.
He asked lawyers to cooperate with the court for ensuring speedy disposal of cases. He welcome the idea of establishment of housing colonies for lawyers by the bar council.
Visitors apprised the chief justice of the problems of lawyers and litigants, and discussed with him professional matters.
The delegation consisted of KPBC vice chairman Fazle Tawab Khan, chairman Naeemuddin Khan and members Mian Faheemuddin Khan (Swabai), Bilal Ahmad Durrani (Peshawar), Abdul Lateef Khan (Mansehra), Mohammad Waseem (Bannu) and Parveen Akhtar (Peshawar).
