PPF condemns killing of two journalists in Afghanistan

Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) in a letter to Ashraf Ghani, President of Afghanistan has expressed deep concern over the killing of two journalists in Taliqan city, northern Takhar province of Afghanistan.

PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in his letter has condemned this incident and called on the government and law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and hold those responsible for this terrible crime.

According to Afghanistan Journalists Center (AFJC), unidentified armed men opened fire in the office of Radio Hamsada, a local radio station killing the reporter Shafiq Aria and broadcaster Rahimullah Rahmani.

Simin Hosaini, director of the station stated that at around 6pm on February 5, the attackers entered the premises using commercial advertisement as an excuse.

No one immediately claimed the responsibility for the killing. According to Khalil Asir, spokesperson of Takhar police, without being identified the attackers escaped from the spot and police is investigating the incident.

Afghanistan is considered one of the dangerous countries for journalists in the world. Since 2001, more than 100 journalists and media professionals were killed mostly by Taliban and IS (Daesh).
